Lorella, which topics are part of the sustainability management agenda?
Lorella Di Dio: Although sustainability is often only associated with environmental aspects, sustainability management in fact involves three main dimensions, known as “ESG“:
- E – Environmental: In this field, we address environmental and climate issues such as energy and water consumption, emissions reduction, and sustainable products and solutions.
- S – Social: Social aspects include social commitment as well as occupational health and safety for the company’s own employees and throughout the entire supply chain.
- G – Governance: Company governance focuses on compliance with legal regulations, as well as management and monitoring processes. It also encompasses business ethics and the prevention of corruption.

Lea, would you mind explaining why this topic is so relevant for us?
Lea Steilen: „Think global, act local“ is the theme in sustainability management. Global sustainability goals are accompanied by local measures. This includes, for example, not only reducing our ecological footprint, but also supporting local communities. This enables us to meet global challenges while creating local benefits. Therefore, Uhlmann and KOCH organize Christmas and fundraising campaigns to support various organizations in the area and bring more joy to this festive time.

We are keen to support local organizations, which is why I very much welcome the campaigns at KOCH and Uhlmann.

Tree of Wishes at Uhlmann Pac-Systems
This year, for the first time, we are organizing a „Tree of Wishes” campaign in cooperation with the German Child Protection Association Laupheim e. V. during the Christmas season to bring happiness to the participating children. Together with Uhlmann employees, the children visited us, decorated the tree at the reception, and hung up their wishes as tags.
German Child Protection Association Laupheim e. V.
The German Child Protection Association (DKSB) is a non-profit organization from Hamburg and the largest child protection association in German with over 50,000 members. The DKSB’s tasks include the protection of children’s rights, the improvement of the material living conditions of children and young people and the support of their mental, psychological, social and physical development. The DKSB also campaigns for a child-friendly and healthy environment.
Since 1978, the Laupheim local association has also been committed to the development and support of local children.
We invite all employees in Laupheim to take a wish from the tree and fulfill one wish together with their colleagues. Each wish has a suggested value of about € 30. Once the gift has been purchased and wrapped in wrapping paper, the child’s tag should be attached to it. Subsequently, please hand in the gift to the reception desk or the post office by the 13.12. This will ensure that the Christmas present reach the children on time.

As only a limited number of wishes are available, there is also the option of making a monetary donation to the Child Protection Association, Laupheim. For this purpose, a donation box is available at the reception desk (during opening hours). Together we have the chance to create a Christmas surprise for the children.

After seeing how excited the children were to decorate the Christmas tree, I am very happy to be able
Annette Rieger, Receptionist
to fulfil one of their wishes!
Donation campaign at KOCH Pac-Systems
KOCH attaches great importance to its commitment to charitable organizations and projects in the surrounding region. For this reason, various initiatives that promote regionality, future security and community were supported last year. This commitment will continue in 2024 in order to further expand the positive contribution and encourage sustainable change.
All employees have the opportunity to donate any amount to a project of their choice. Each donation will then be (at least) doubled by KOCH. The donation boxes will be available at the reception desk at KOCH until December 20, 2024.

One of the projects supported is the initiative ‘A hope on four paws for Fee.’ Fee, a girl from Pfalzgrafenweiler, struggles with the challenges of her mitochondriopathy disease. Her severely impaired vision makes everyday tasks such as recognising dangers or opening doors difficult for her. A specially trained assistance dog can offer Fee practical help and give her more security and enjoyment of life. The donations from KOCH are intended to support the training of the human-dog team by the WZ Dog Centre.

I live in the same neighborhood as Fee and am delighted that we are supporting her.

Let’s end 2024 with a good deed and support these projects.
