Full power
Uhlmann has been operating its own CPH plant in conjunction with Erdgas Südwest GmbH since 2013. We generate heat and power using biogas from local farming: 90 percent of our heating needs are covered this way. The membership of Uhlmann in the energy network for the region Swabian Jura/Black Forest/Lake Constance is another aspect of our energy management. Information exchanged between the member companies focuses on energy-saving potential.

Well sorted
We pay attention to the responsible use of resources from the outset of development and engineering in order to minimize waste. The waste management station in Plant 1 in Laupheim is one example of our efforts to ensure the best possible utilization of waste materials. Careful sorting enabled us to forward 59.9 percent for waste-to-energy recycling.

Short distances
85.4 percent of our production material comes from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, 11.5 percent from the rest of Europe, and just the remaining 3.1 percent from overseas. Our high degree of production depth also helps us to reduce transportation.

Safety first
Fortunately, work and way-to/from work accidents are isolated among our workforce. The Occupational Safety Committee is committed to further reducing the figures. It is made up of representatives of the Executive Board and workers’ council, the company physician, the officers responsible for safety, health, and integration management, as well as those representing facility management and the severely handicapped.

Good work-life balance
Uhlmann attaches great importance to supporting employees in their respective life situation. Part-time working models, flexible working hours, and new workplace concepts combine job and family interests. Permanent jobs offer planning security and 93.7 percent of all Uhlmann employees in Laupheim have this firm basis.

Fair reward
Significantly more men than women work for Uhlmann, but there is no gender pay gap. An intensive dialog between the workers’ representatives and the Executive Board helps to rule out grievances.

New talent
We are particularly proud of the fact that we regularly fill all apprenticeship vacancies and that all 26 trainees could be taken over in fiscal 2018/19. After all, the future of our company is as good as its junior staff.
