A little paradise for buzzing, humming and crawling guests – and a great community project. Uhlmann’s “Insect Box” has recently been installed in the green area next to the main entrance between A1 and D6.
The idea and concept for it originated in the Sustainability department and we received active support from employees from Purchasing, the Health & Safety team, Facility Management, our trainees and local organizations for its implementation.

The frame was made in the workshop for people with disabilities at the St. Elisabeth Foundation in Laupheim. It was then taken to the 2024 summer holiday program run by pipapo Neu-Ulm. There, the “Uhlmann children” painted the hotel in bright colors together with our trainees and filled the nesting boxes with bamboo tubes, pieces of wood and bricks.
St. Elisabeth Foundation in Laupheim
The St. Elisabeth Foundation in Laupheim was founded in 1999 and has been a place of charitable work in Upper Swabia ever since. It supports and employs around 1,000 people with disabilities.
Pipapo Neu-Ulm
Pipapo Neu-Ulm and its team accompany exciting vacation offers to a wide variety of events, especially varied children’s programs.
By setting up the insect hotel, we are making a valuable contribution to preserving our environment and at the same time supporting the natural balance of our ecosystems. By helping the insects, we are ultimately helping ourselves by ensuring the health and productivity of our environment.
Thank you to everyone involved for the great collaboration and support on this project. We are excited and hope that some insects and wild bees will soon colonize the hotel.
Why are insect hotels so important?
Due to the large-scale expansion of cities and grassy areas, insects are increasingly losing their natural habitat. This is where insect hotels come into play. They offer insects a safe place to nest and hibernate. Different materials and cavities in the insect hotels can attract and support different types of insects, including wild bees, bumblebees, butterflies and ladybugs.
