Why will the USP be built at KOCH in future and not at Uhlmann?<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

The relo\u00adca\u00adtion is intended to be tempo\u00adrary. KOCH currently has few orders and the colleagues there would there\u00adfore have to go on short-time working. To avert this, the manage\u00adment gave me and my team the task of checking which machines we could relo\u00adcate assembly to Pfalz\u00adgrafen\u00adweiler. We looked at various options and the USP as a modular plat\u00adform for seri\u00adal\u00adiza\u00adtion was a good fit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Team\u00adwork makes the dream work: Together, the colleagues from Koch and Uhlmann assem\u00adbled the first two USPs, with the third being assem\u00adbled at KOCH.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
How does knowl\u00adedge transfer work?<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

In the first three months of 2025, some of KOCH\u2019s fitters, elec\u00adtri\u00adcians and tech\u00adni\u00adcians worked here at Uhlmann and built the first two systems. This meant we were always able to support them if they had any ques\u00adtions. They pass this knowl\u00adedge on to the assembly team at KOCH and train their colleagues there. In the future, they will produce 10 to 15 systems per year. If neces\u00adsary, we will of course support them on site, but I don\u2019t think they will need that much. As expected, the induc\u00adtion went smoothly. It was clear to us from the start that the KOCH people would do a good job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where does the confi\u00addence come from?<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ve had this issue before, but the other way around. Back then, KOCH had a huge order, we supported them with the assembly and worked closely together. That\u2019s how we knew: You can do busi\u00adness with them \u2013 as the Swabians say. So, the trust was there right from the start. That was also impor\u00adtant, because we had very little time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why was time so short?<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

The deci\u00adsion to relo\u00adcate USP was made in December 2024, and we had to deliver the first machine at the end of March. So, we went from zero to one hundred in just four months. That was quite a feat! But we managed to do it all in such a short time. It was only possible because everyone really did a great job. The purchasing and IT depart\u00adments at KOCH and Uhlmann worked closely together, as did the logis\u00adtics experts. Koch had to set up the supply chain in the shortest possible time and create the right tech\u00adnical infra\u00adstruc\u00adture. But together we found very quick, lean and good solu\u00adtions. Deci\u00adsions were always made imme\u00addi\u00adately and never post\u00adponed. Because one thing was clear: customer dead\u00adlines and quality must not suffer, that is our top priority. And you could tell that everyone involved took this seri\u00adously. This worked very well at all levels: from manage\u00adment to the assembly hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What happens next?<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Our colleagues build the third USP inde\u00adpen\u00addently at KOCH. From this point onwards, we also intro\u00adduce addi\u00adtional, new quality steps to increase the machine\u2019s appli\u00adca\u00adtion readi\u00adness and thus reduce throughput times. In other words, we are going one better in terms of quality. When the USP is finished, it comes back to Uhlmann, where it is inte\u00adgrated into the line, synchro\u00adnized and handed over to the customer. As before, our customers buy the complete line from Uhlmann.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are your key learn\u00adings from the project?<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

It shows that we Group Compa\u00adnies can achieve an incred\u00adible amount together within the Uhlmann Group. We are fast and adapt flex\u00adibly to changing condi\u00adtions. This makes us more agile than a large corpo\u00adra\u00adtion. What we have achieved here cannot be valued highly enough and the fact that we are helping our colleagues at KOCH is all the better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Which machines do you assemble at KOCH?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am mainly involved in the construc\u00adtion of the KBS-PL blister machine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How is USP different?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The USP systems are more compact. With the USP, the product is trans\u00adported via belts; with the KBS-PL, the product is trans\u00adported via a conveyor chain and container.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is your role in trans\u00adfer\u00adring knowl\u00adedge to the KOCH assembly team?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

My job is to pass on the knowl\u00adedge I have gained to my colleagues in compo\u00adnent assembly and to super\u00advise the construc\u00adtion of further USP systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How did the induc\u00adtion and coop\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion with your colleagues at Uhlmann go?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The coop\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion with our colleagues at Uhlmann was excel\u00adlent. Everyone was very helpful, and we felt very welcome. Famil\u00adiar\u00adizing ourselves with compo\u00adnent assembly was chal\u00adlenging, but we managed it together. The friendly and helpful Uhlmann colleagues really impressed me.
