In spring 2024, a long-term dream comes true for Manuel Hospach. On April 10, he lands at Mexico City airport with his family. The four of them are trav\u00adeling with a lot of luggage, as they have come to stay \u2013 initially for two years. During this time, Hospach takes up the job of Director Sales & Service at Uhlmann M\u00e9xico. The sales and service branch in Santiago de Quer\u00e9\u00adtaro has been in oper\u00ada\u00adtion since february 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n

Uhlmann is based in Santiago de Quer\u00e9\u00adtaro, a three-hour drive from Mexico City.<\/p><\/div>\n

A total of eight employees work from there, primarily looking after customers in Mexico, but also in other Latin Amer\u00adican coun\u00adtries such as Costa Rica and Cuba. \u201cIn Mexico, these are both, local and multi\u00adna\u00adtional compa\u00adnies, mostly generics manu\u00adfac\u00adturers that mainly produce for Latin America, but also the large global phar\u00adma\u00adceu\u00adtical compa\u00adnies that export to the USA,\u201d explains Manuel Hospach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unlike in the neigh\u00adboring USA, Mexican manu\u00adfac\u00adturers mainly pack in blis\u00adters. The BEC 300 and BEC 500 blister lines are there\u00adfore Uhlmann\u2019s best-selling machines in this region. Mexico-love<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hospach himself is a true Uhlmann native. He is writing his bachelor\u2019s and master\u2019s theses in sales and will then start as a trainee in Laupheim. When he applied for the job, he already said that he would like to go abroad later. He quickly took over his own sales terri\u00adtory in northern South America and was respon\u00adsible for customer acqui\u00adsi\u00adtion, support and sales in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia, among other things. He later took over the Mexican market, but from Laupheim. When the posi\u00adtion of Director Sales & Service became vacant at Uhlmann M\u00e9xico in 2024, it was clear to the 31-year-old that this was where he wanted to be. And his boss also gave the green light. He already knew Mexico through an exchange program with the Univer\u00adsity Tec de Monterrey: \u201cDuring my semester abroad there, I fell in love with the country straight away.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A bumpy start<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Hospachs prepare well for their time abroad. And yet: \u201cEmigrating with two small chil\u00addren is yet another chal\u00adlenge,\u201d admits Manuel Hospach. One stum\u00adbling block: as the move took place in the middle of the school year, they did not yet have a school place for their then seven-year-old son Tom. \u201cSo my wife started home\u00adschooling for three months. She coped incred\u00adibly well with this, but of course it brought some chal\u00adlenges with it. New country, new language, new people \u2013 and on the other side of the world. In the mean\u00adtime, the ceiling some\u00adtimes falls on your head.\u201d Finally, the good news: Tom will be able to start second grade at a school with a Swiss school system from September 2024. He will be taught in German and Spanish. And Tom quickly feels right at home: \u201cHe has lots of Mexican friends and already speaks great Spanish,\u201d says Hospach proudly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finding new friends<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

His wife Anna and their daughter Lotta, who is now three, are finding it diffi\u00adcult to settle in. The distance to her family back home is a problem for Anna. The time differ\u00adence makes even regular phone calls diffi\u00adcult. \u201cThe family life just completely disap\u00adpeared. No rela\u00adtives, no friends. That was very hard,\u201d says Hospach. Then there are the language barriers and the many small and large orga\u00adni\u00adza\u00adtional issues that have to be dealt with. But Anna doesn\u2019t give up that easily. She looked for a Spanish course and with her new-found linguistic confi\u00addence, she quickly made contacts. \u201cToday she is well inte\u00adgrated, is friends with many mothers from school and feels very comfort\u00adable here,\u201d says Hospach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He and his family have been in Mexico for a year now and the youngest member of the family has really arrived. \u201cLotta is the only non-Mexican child in the kinder\u00adgarten, which is of course a huge adjust\u00adment. Today, however, she is already looking forward to seeing her friends Macarena and Regina on the way to kinder\u00adgarten in the morning.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every\u00adthing-is-good mentality<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Manuel Hospach believes that Mexico makes it easy to quickly feel at home. When asked about the biggest differ\u00adence to Germany, he says: \u201cStruc\u00adture! Or rather, the lack of struc\u00adtures as we know them and are used to.\u201d A lot of things are a little more relaxed in Mexico and where things are some\u00adtimes very rigid in Germany, there is more room for flex\u00adi\u00adbility here \u2013 and the confi\u00addence that a good solu\u00adtion can always be found. \u201cPeople here are much more posi\u00adtive and opti\u00admistic than at home, people are very cheerful. There is no shortage of praise and compli\u00adments. Personal rela\u00adtion\u00adships are partic\u00adu\u00adlarly impor\u00adtant in Mexico,\u201d says Hospach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He continues to be impressed by the enor\u00admous diver\u00adsity: \u201cMexico has so many facets \u2013 scenic, culi\u00adnary: We have desert, moun\u00adtains and beaches. And then the open\u00adness of the people. I have learned to appre\u00adciate that incred\u00adibly.\u201d Can he imagine staying longer than the planned two years? \u201cDefi\u00adnitely!\u201d he says imme\u00addi\u00adately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
