A little paradise for buzzing, humming and crawling guests \u2013 and a great commu\u00adnity project. Uhlmann\u2019s \u201cInsect Box\u201d has recently been installed in the green area next to the main entrance between A1 and D6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The idea and concept for it orig\u00adi\u00adnated in the Sustain\u00adability depart\u00adment and we received active support from employees from Purchasing, the Health & Safety team, Facility Manage\u00adment, our trainees and local orga\u00adni\u00adza\u00adtions for its imple\u00admen\u00adta\u00adtion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Freshly deliv\u00adered, the young helpers got to work and prepared the insect hotel for painting.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The frame was made in the work\u00adshop for people with disabil\u00adi\u00adties at the St. Elis\u00ada\u00adbeth Foun\u00adda\u00adtion in Laupheim. It was then taken to the 2024 summer holiday program run by pipapo Neu-Ulm. There, the \u201cUhlmann chil\u00addren\u201d painted the hotel in bright colors together with our trainees and filled the nesting boxes with bamboo tubes, pieces of wood and bricks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The St. Elis\u00ada\u00adbeth Foun\u00adda\u00adtion in Laupheim was founded in 1999 and has been a place of char\u00adi\u00adtable work in Upper Swabia ever since. It supports and employs around 1,000 people with disabil\u00adi\u00adties.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Pipapo Neu-Ulm and its team accom\u00adpany exciting vaca\u00adtion offers to a wide variety of events, espe\u00adcially varied children\u2019s programs.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

By setting up the insect hotel, we are making a valu\u00adable contri\u00adbu\u00adtion to preserving our envi\u00adron\u00adment and at the same time supporting the natural balance of our ecosys\u00adtems. By helping the insects, we are ulti\u00admately helping ourselves by ensuring the health and produc\u00adtivity of our envi\u00adron\u00adment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The housing of the insect hotel was made by people with disabil\u00adi\u00adties in the work\u00adshop of the St. Elis\u00ada\u00adbeth Foun\u00adda\u00adtion.<\/p><\/div>\n

The young partic\u00adi\u00adpants in the vaca\u00adtion program filled the \u201crooms\u201d with different mate\u00adrials.<\/p><\/div>\n

Reeds, bamboo, wood and bricks \u2013 this is what a cozy nesting box for bees, bumble\u00adbees and co. looks like.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Thank you to everyone involved for the great collab\u00ado\u00adra\u00adtion and support on this project. We are excited and hope that some insects and wild bees will soon colo\u00adnize the hotel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why are insect hotels so impor\u00adtant?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
\n

Due to the large-scale expan\u00adsion of cities and grassy areas, insects are increas\u00adingly losing their natural habitat. This is where insect hotels come into play. They offer insects a safe place to nest and hiber\u00adnate. Different mate\u00adrials and cavi\u00adties in the insect hotels can attract and support different types of insects, including wild bees, bumble\u00adbees, butter\u00adflies and lady\u00adbugs.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Now that Uhlmann has set up its own insect hotel, we would like to invite you to take part in an exciting hands-on activity and present your own initia\u00adtives to promote biodi\u00adver\u00adsity and envi\u00adron\u00admental protec\u00adtion!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What do you have to do?<\/strong> Send us photos of your own insect hotels or other creative activ\u00adi\u00adties that promote the envi\u00adron\u00adment and biodi\u00adver\u00adsity. Whether it\u2019s flower beds, nesting boxes, self-built insect hotels or other nature conser\u00adva\u00adtion projects \u2013 we look forward to all submis\u00adsions!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
