Last year, Uhlmann Pack\u00adaging Systems L.P. \u2013 our biggest and oldest subsidiary \u2013 not only cele\u00adbrated its annual Christmas party, but also its 40th anniver\u00adsary. Oper\u00adating in Towaco, New Jersey since 1983, the company is just some 30 minutes away from New York. Aaron Rossi has been part of the team since April 2020. He joined as Sales Director and has served as Managing Director since 2021, leading a team of approx\u00adi\u00admately 60 employees. Most of the team works in Towaco, while eight sales colleagues are based at the second site north of Atlanta, in Alpharetta, Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s a diverse team at Uhlmann USA where young junior staff work hand in hand with expe\u00adri\u00adenced profes\u00adsionals, some of whom have been here for many years: \u201cWe have more than ten colleagues here who have been with the company for more than 15 years,\u201d says Rossi. And we also have some colleagues who moved to Towaco from Germany, including, for instance, Chris\u00adtian Mueller who trans\u00adferred to the USA from Laupheim 15 years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everyone counts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For Aaron Rossi, personal contact is crucial to ensuring good team\u00adwork. \u201cThere are 60 indi\u00advid\u00aduals working here and it\u2019s impor\u00adtant to me to know each one of them and their profes\u00adsional and private situ\u00ada\u00adtion. These personal rela\u00adtion\u00adships are partic\u00adu\u00adlarly impor\u00adtant in a small team. This is the only way we can respond to the needs of our employees and support them accord\u00adingly.\u201d An impor\u00adtant date in the calendar of all colleagues is there\u00adfore the annual summer BBQ with deli\u00adcious food, outdoor team games, and the tradi\u00adtional boccia compe\u00adti\u00adtion. \u201cThis personal contact creates a high level of trust, and it makes it easier to work together and increases people\u2019s will\u00ading\u00adness to some\u00adtimes take on tasks that go beyond their job descrip\u00adtion,\u201d says Rossi. \u201cWe don\u2019t have special\u00adists here who do the same job every day for 20 years. In a small team like ours, people have to assume different roles and be prepared to play their part in the company\u2019s success.\u201d When asked what makes his team special, he says: \u201cWe have a very resilient group that is willing to tackle diffi\u00adcult topics together.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The way out of the crisis<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This resilience also helped them through the past, econom\u00adi\u00adcally \u201cbumpy\u201dyears. A chal\u00adlenging start for Aaron Rossi. As the newly appointed Managing Director, he really had his work cut out for him in the fall of 2020: \u201cMy first job was to finalize the imple\u00admen\u00adta\u00adtion of the restruc\u00adturing program \u201cXRAY\u201d The finan\u00adcial constraints meant that we had to revise our busi\u00adness strategy, build effi\u00adcien\u00adcies, and refocus our busi\u00adness prior\u00adi\u00adties.\u201d The result is the sales model we have today which focuses on the distri\u00adb\u00adu\u00adtion of spare parts, upgrades, and format parts, the produc\u00adtion of format parts, field service, and the indi\u00advidual inte\u00adgra\u00adtion of bottle lines, known as late-stage customiza\u00adtion. Unlike other coun\u00adtries, tablets in the USA are usually pack\u00adaged in bottles rather than blister packs. The Amer\u00adican team there\u00adfore focuses on the Inte\u00adgrated Bottle Center IBC 150, and Cremer Coun\u00adters for the late-stage customiza\u00adtion and distri\u00adb\u00adu\u00adtion model. \u201cWe primarily supply multi\u00adna\u00adtional phar\u00adma\u00adceu\u00adtical compa\u00adnies, but also many generics manu\u00adfac\u00adturers. Other key markets for us include food supple\u00adments and over the counter prod\u00aducts,\u201d says Rossi. And the new strategy is already bearing fruit. In 2023, Uhlmann USA recorded aggre\u00adgate order intake of 60 million US dollars, compared to 50 million in the previous year. And for the current finan\u00adcial year, Rossi is expecting 55 Million in aggre\u00adgate order intake and local revenue of 34 million US dollars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the past, the team mainly supplied customers in Canada and the USA and gener\u00adated 85% of its busi\u00adness in the United States. As of October 1, Uhlmann Mexico also became part of the Amer\u00adican subsidiary. Uhlmann USA is now also respon\u00adsible for the sale and distri\u00adb\u00adu\u00adtion of our systems in Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and Panama. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strong team, strong results<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs a result, not only is the scope of activ\u00adi\u00adties expanding, but also the team: \u201cSeven people currently work at Uhlmann Mexico,\u201d explains Rossi. \u201cWe are plan\u00adning to further expand the loca\u00adtion for spare parts and machine distri\u00adb\u00adu\u00adtion and hire new service tech\u00adni\u00adcians. Following the past chal\u00adlenging years, Rossi looks to the future with confi\u00addence \u2013 and looks back with satis\u00adfac\u00adtion: \u201cFor me, it\u2019s rewarding to see how we have succeeded as a team to turn Uhlmann USA into a thriving subsidiary within the space of three years \u2013 despite the diffi\u00adcult times \u2013 and made it a place where we are proud to work.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
