Why so compli\u00adcated when it could be so simple? That, according to Franziska Unseld, Product Manager at Uhlmann, basi\u00adcally sums it up. \u201cCurrently, there are multiple different soft\u00adware solu\u00adtions in the phar\u00adma\u00adceu\u00adtical industry that are designed as stand-alone appli\u00adca\u00adtions and lack homo\u00adgeneity,\u201d she says. \u201cPexcite is a tech\u00adno\u00adlog\u00adical basis that allows many different solu\u00adtions to be merged behind one inter\u00adface that every oper\u00adator can use intu\u00aditively.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pexcite links machines and equip\u00adment, collects produc\u00adtion-related data, and presents it clearly in dash\u00adboards. This allows customers to retrieve produc\u00adtion data quickly and easily. Pexcite is inten\u00adtion\u00adally not limited to Uhlmann machines: \u201cWe are manu\u00adfac\u00adturer-inde\u00adpen\u00addent. This is one of our major advan\u00adtages,\u201d says Unseld. \u201cThis means that it\u2019s not just Uhlmann machines that interact with Pexcite, but also those of other suppliers\u201d. The whole idea is to inter\u00adlink machines and equip\u00adment flex\u00adibly and inde\u00adpen\u00addently of the manu\u00adfac\u00adturer. \u201cPexcite\u2019s vision is to have a plat\u00adform in the future that provides a broad range of solu\u00adtions for the respec\u00adtive stake\u00adholders \u2013 from raw mate\u00adrials right down to the patient; in other words, one that spans the entire value chain\u201d, says Franziska Unseld.<\/p>\n

From SOFTWARE SUITE to Pexcite<\/h3>\n

Unseld super\u00advised the launch and marketing activ\u00adi\u00adties. As product manager, she acted as an inter\u00adface to sales and tech\u00adnical product devel\u00adop\u00adment, and recalls very clearly how it all began with Pexcite. \u201cAt our 2019 in-house exhi\u00adbi\u00adtion, the Phar\u00admazing Days, we presented the beta version to customers, which, at the time, was still called SOFTWARE SUITE. But by then it was already clear what features the plat\u00adform would later include.\u201d Encour\u00adaged by posi\u00adtive feed\u00adback from our customers, the project group decided at the end of the year to expand the soft\u00adware plat\u00adform and to follow up by looking at marketing approaches.<\/p>\n

Thanks to the Rework func\u00adtion imple\u00admented in our Track & Trace solu\u00adtion, machine oper\u00ada\u00adtors can change pallet infor\u00adma\u00adtion, for example if some\u00adthing breaks. Self-explana\u00adtory icons and colours make that very easy.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

\u201cThe project group was made up of colleagues from sales, marketing, product devel\u00adop\u00adment and product manage\u00adment. In regular weekly meet\u00adings, we discussed issues concerning the busi\u00adness model, pricing, promo\u00adtion and the global rollout,\u201d says Unseld. \u201cWe subse\u00adquently intro\u00adduced Pexcite to our colleagues in August 2020, and it then made its debut with a customer at the end of November 2020.\u201d NOVO NORDISK is based in Denmark and installed Pexcite for the first time on the shop floor of its plant in Durham, USA.<\/p>\n

Super\u00advi\u00adsory Control, Track & Trace \u2013 the right solu\u00adtion for every customer<\/h3>\n

Pexcite uses a modular design and can thus be flex\u00adibly adapted entirely according to the customer\u2019s needs. Initially, we will be offering two solu\u00adtions via the Pexcite plat\u00adform: Track & Trace and Super\u00advi\u00adsory Control. With the latter, the machines in a pack\u00adaging line are no longer controlled indi\u00advid\u00adu\u00adally, but as a line. This saves time. \u201cThe customer only has to enter the order infor\u00adma\u00adtion once. Then it\u2019s down to me, as the oper\u00adator, to control the soft\u00adware via a panel \u2013 this can either be on the machine or at the end of the line using an oper\u00adator terminal. But produc\u00adtion managers, for example, can also view the status of the order in the office, so they also benefit from Pexcite,\u201d says Unseld.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe appli\u00adca\u00adtions are designed to work inde\u00adpen\u00addently \u2013 but each builds on the other. We offer customers various pack\u00adages that we call \u201cEssen\u00adtial\u201d for the entry-level version, \u201cProfes\u00adsional\u201d, which is the most commonly used variant, and, finally, \u201cEnter\u00adprise\u201d which is the premium upgrade level.\u201d You can\u2019t get much more flex\u00adible than that \u2013 and specific inter\u00adfaces are also avail\u00adable to address indi\u00advidual customer needs.<\/p>\n
