The golden Oscar on the shelf speaks volumes. Roberto Z\u00fcrcher, Managing Director of Uhlmann H\u00f6fliger Schweiz GmbH, received it from his employees in 2015 to mark the company\u2019s tenth anniver\u00adsary. The joint venture between Uhlmann and H\u00f6fliger in Arlesheim, near Basel, was founded in 2005. Z\u00fcrcher has been involved from the outset: \u201cMy whole profes\u00adsional life has been centered on pack\u00adaging \u2013 a world in which everyone knows everyone else. And that\u2019s how I got to know Uhlmann\u2019s Managing Director Sales at the time. He wanted to set up a sales company for Switzer\u00adland together with Harro H\u00f6fliger Verpack\u00adungs\u00admaschinen GmbH. In January 2005, the joint sales and service company was founded, with Roberto Z\u00fcrcher at the helm.<\/p>\n

Mean\u00adwhile, the team has grown to six members: Manuela Hummel has also been on board since 2005 and is offi\u00adcially the Office Manager, but for Z\u00fcrcher, she is above all \u201cthe heart and soul\u201d of the company. Michael Kuhn has been working here as Service Manager for Uhlmann since 2018, and his Harro H\u00f6fliger coun\u00adter\u00adpart since 2020 is Stefan Burkhardt. Service tech\u00adni\u00adcian Marc Hartzer has been looking after the customers of both compa\u00adnies since 2013, and an addi\u00adtional service tech\u00adni\u00adcian is currently still being sought. Jan Paet\u00adzold, as Senior Sales Manager, is chiefly respon\u00adsible for Harro H\u00f6fliger in Switzer\u00adland and has been assisting Roberto Z\u00fcrcher since 2014.<\/p>\n

Two compa\u00adnies under one roof<\/h3>\n

Z\u00fcrcher takes his job of repre\u00adsenting two different compa\u00adnies and their prod\u00aducts very seri\u00adously: \u201cI see myself as the go-to-person when it comes to finding solu\u00adtions for our customers. Main\u00adtaining integrity is essen\u00adtial, and we tell our customers quite openly what we feel is the best solu\u00adtion for them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Customers benefit from the alliance thanks to the broader product port\u00adfolio. And the two compa\u00adnies profit from being able to offer indi\u00advidual customers a lot more, simply by working together rather than on their own. \u201cIf someone asks for a Harro capsule filling machine, we natu\u00adrally ask them how they pack their capsules; and that\u2019s when we bring a blister machine from Uhlmann into play,\u201d says Z\u00fcrcher.<\/p>\n

For the team members, who are also assigned to different customers, this means that everyone must be familiar with the other partner\u2019s port\u00adfolio. \u201cOne voice to the customer\u201d, i.e., having a single point of contact for each customer, is crucial to building trust. But if, for example, Jan Paet\u00adzold is dealing with a customer looking for a capsule filling machine, and that customer needs a blister machine, he tells them that we can provide one and that he will pass the query on to me,\u201d says the Managing Director.<\/p>\n

Passionate about pack\u00adaging<\/h3>\n

Hence, the six-strong team looks after the entire phar\u00adma\u00adceu\u00adti\u00adcals manu\u00adfac\u00adturing industry in Switzer\u00adland. Harro has also added other indus\u00adtries to its customer base, including a large food company that packs its coffee capsules using Harro H\u00f6fliger machines.<\/p>\n

Coffee capsules and every\u00adthing that comes pack\u00adaged are also among the things that Roberto Z\u00fcrcher looks at very closely when shop\u00adping: \u201cI always examine how some\u00adthing has been packed. It just goes with the terri\u00adtory. And I can see straight away if the pack\u00adaging is no good.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s hard to imagine such an expe\u00adri\u00adenced pack\u00adaging specialist getting really worked up about anything. Commenting on the past few months of COVID-related travel restric\u00adtions, which doesn\u2019t make life for a sales and service company any easier, Z\u00fcrcher simply says: \u201cWe just had to get creative.\u201d And the Swiss team deliv\u00adered: for example by winning four new customers who previ\u00adously had no Uhlmann or Harro machines. \u201cWe also got some fantastic help from everyone in the parent compa\u00adnies\u201d, he says, praising the team effort.<\/p>\n

The connec\u00adtions to the head\u00adquar\u00adters in Laupheim and Allmers\u00adbach im Tal are good. And in normal times, Z\u00fcrcher travels to Laupheim at least once a month, and trainees also come to Arlesheim, as well as service tech\u00adni\u00adcians visiting customers nearby. Customers are natu\u00adrally always welcome, too. And at the small coffee counter in the rooms above a print shop, Roberto Z\u00fcrcher and his team always find a spot and time for a chat \u2013 for instance about the pack\u00adaging in the large shelf.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
