Georg Schick is a bit sad. \u201cI would have liked to present my \u2018baby\u2019 in person,\u201d he says. The Product Manager Track & Trace is refer\u00adring to the new S 500 seri\u00adal\u00adiza\u00adtion plat\u00adform, which would normally have been presented to the public at the Inter\u00adpack in May \u2013 but then coro\u00adn\u00adavirus hit. Schick is passionate about the new Uhlmann product and is convinced that the time is more than ripe for it. \u201cThe USP Seri\u00adal\u00adiza\u00adtion Plat\u00adform, the prede\u00adcessor of the S 500, was already a bit outdated,\u201d he says. More\u00adover, the require\u00adments for seri\u00adal\u00adiza\u00adtion in the indi\u00advidual coun\u00adtries are now so different that the USP was no longer flex\u00adible enough to support them. \u201cAnd due to the high purchase price, it also cost us many poten\u00adtial customers.\u201d This is set to change with the S 500.<\/p>\n\n

What is Seri\u00adal\u00adiza\u00adtion per Track & Trace?<\/h3>\n

The produc\u00adtion and sale of phar\u00adma\u00adceu\u00adti\u00adcals are subject to strict legal regu\u00adla\u00adtions. In many coun\u00adtries, even the smallest sales unit is iden\u00adti\u00adfied by a unique seri\u00adal\u00adiza\u00adtion number. If the drug is sold, this is elec\u00adtron\u00adi\u00adcally recorded in the govern\u00adment data\u00adbase. The aim is to combat coun\u00adter\u00adfeit drugs. With machines like the S 500, Uhlmann Pac-Systeme enables seri\u00adal\u00adiza\u00adtion and tracking of prod\u00aducts via Track & Trace. For this purpose, seri\u00adal\u00adized codes are printed on the pack\u00adaging, thus making the product coun\u00adter\u00adfeit-proof.<\/p>\n

Matching price to demand<\/h3>\n

A key factor here is Asia. Although the demand for such machines in this region is high, suffi\u00adcient purchasing power is often lacking. \u201cIn many discus\u00adsions with customers, the higher prices for an Uhlmann machine compared to competi\u00adtors were crit\u00adi\u00adcized,\u201d says Schick. \u201cThere\u00adfore, we have revised the concept in this regard and devel\u00adoped the S 500. Our fantastic devel\u00adop\u00adment team delivers this machine at market price, in proven Uhlmann quality!\u201d<\/p>\n

Flex\u00adible seri\u00adal\u00adiza\u00adtion depending on country<\/h3>\n

The S 500 has different func\u00adtional features, and customers can configure the machine indi\u00advid\u00adu\u00adally. This is because the require\u00adments for seri\u00adal\u00adiza\u00adtion can vary widely from one country to the next, depending on where the product is deliv\u00adered. \u201cIn Europe, for example, we need a Tamper Evident secu\u00adrity seal, and here we only need seri\u00adal\u00adiza\u00adtion, whereas we don\u2019t need aggre\u00adga\u00adtion to pallet level. In other coun\u00adtries, it\u2019s different,\u201d explains Georg Schick. The new S 500 offers customers multiple options. \u201cWith the S 500, we are also moving into bottle seri\u00adal\u00adiza\u00adtion, because the Amer\u00adican market, for example, simply can\u2019t get away from bottles,\u201d says Schick. Thus, in addi\u00adtion to bottle labeling for seri\u00adal\u00adiza\u00adtion, the product port\u00adfolio of the S 500 family will also be supple\u00admented by 360\u00b0 bottle inspec\u00adtion.<\/p>\n

There have also been improve\u00adments on another level: \u201cPrevi\u00adously, it simply took too long for our machines to reach the customer. If, for example, a new law is passed in Indonesia and the machine has to be ready for use in half a year, then we have to adapt accord\u00adingly.\u201d And that, according to Schick, has been accom\u00adplished.<\/p>\n

In the end, although Schick didn\u2019t get to present his \u201cbaby\u201d person\u00adally, he is never\u00adthe\u00adless satis\u00adfied: \u201cThe launch took place in Taiwan, a key market for this upgrade.
