Sand\u00adhurst is some 30 miles south\u00adwest of London. The small town, with a popu\u00adla\u00adtion of about 21,000, is world-famous because the Royal Mili\u00adtary Academy Sand\u00adhurst is where all Her Majesty\u2019s offi\u00adcers in the British Army are trained.<\/p>\n

Our first sales and service company in Europe was initially housed in a small office, but in 2000 we were already able to move into our current premises. Seven people presently work from Swan Lane to serve our customers.<\/p>\n

After\u00adsales play a key role<\/h3>\n

Managing Director Steve Quilt heads the small team that gener\u00adates an annual turnover of eight to ten million pounds. \u201cAbout half of that comes from the sale of new machines\u201d, says Quilt. \u201cHowever, our after\u00adsales services play a partic\u00adu\u00adlarly impor\u00adtant role. There are many older machines on the market, and they need main\u00adte\u00adnance and repair.\u201d Quilt, who orig\u00adi\u00adnally came from the food sector, joined Uhlmann in 2007. He was appointed Managing Director in Sand\u00adhurst in 2013.<\/p>\n

Corona: Flex\u00adible in diffi\u00adcult times<\/h3>\n

No-one is to be found in the Sand\u00adhurst offices at present. Nearly every\u00adbody is working from home in these times of corona. What does that mean for neces\u00adsary services? \u201cWe are only taking on really essen\u00adtial service inquiries\u201d, explains Quilt. \u201cWe are helping to mini\u00admize the risk of spreading the virus this way.\u201d This situ\u00ada\u00adtion demands flex\u00adi\u00adbility on the part of the service tech\u00adni\u00adcians. One who excels in this respect is Mark Kite.<\/p>\n

Mark Kite is still able to help customers from home.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Old hand capable of impro\u00advi\u00adsa\u00adtion<\/h3>\n

The trained preci\u00adsion mechanic has been working in inter\u00adna\u00adtional service for years and started with Uhlmann UK in 1999. Thus, he was present from the very begin\u00adning. Over his years of service, Kite has gained expe\u00adri\u00adence second to none. He is relaxed and prag\u00admatic about corona: Kite uses chat forums for customer inquiries and video soft\u00adware for onsite trou\u00adbleshooting. \u201cAlthough I prefer to support customers in person, in some cases I have been able to help customers more easily via video\u201d, he reports. Just recently, Kite diag\u00adnosed an urgent issue over a video confer\u00adence. Using mate\u00adrial in his garden shed, he managed to impro\u00advise a solu\u00adtion that was installed on site.<\/p>\n

In times of corona, office manager Tanja also works from her home office: \u201cWelcome to my child-free zone\u201d.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Despite Brexit: Opti\u00admistic look ahead<\/h3>\n

Of course, corona is not the only chal\u00adlenge facing Uhlmann UK. Brexit is a \u201cdone deal\u201d since February 1, 2020 \u2013 and will have an economic impact. Steve Quilt cannot say exactly what that means for Uhlmann UK: \u201cA fore\u00adcast is very diffi\u00adcult, but our customer projects as well as the British economy are in good shape\u201d, says the Managing Director. \u201cBesides, we place great faith in poli\u00adtics to make appro\u00adpriate agree\u00adments and provi\u00adsions for the time after December 31, 2020.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
